FOSTER CARE

The Salvation Army Foster Care Program places children who need a period of separation from their natural parents into a loving home. Salvation Army foster parents provide love, support and a stable home environment to help these children through a very difficult period of their lives. Ages of the children in the program range from infant to teenager. Many of these children have special emotional, physical, or developmental needs. Foster families receive support and training from The Salvation Army and other foster families. If you would like to become a Salvation Army foster parent, please call 1-800-245-ARMY or visit us online at:

Additionally, The Salvation Army operates "MacLachlan House," a specialized short-term residential program for teenagers. Youths ages 12-18 may live at MacLachlan House for as much as one month while more permanent housing is being sought for them. Often these children come from homes where they have been sexually or physically abused. The program operates 24 hours a day and staff work in shifts around the clock. As many as 16 children can be accomodated at any one time. The site also includes a one-room school taught by a teacher from the Philadelphia school district.
